The Monterey County Weekly recently endorsed Bruce Delgado, stating the following:

Editorial: Slow-growth slate right choice for Marina

THE HERALD’S VIEW

Agreement is hard to come by in Marinathese days, but there is consensus on one key topic. Marinais the most logical place for residential and commercial growth on the coastalside of Monterey County.

It has room, lots of it at Fort Ord.

Unlike other places, it even has a reasonable amount of available water.

Campaign for Change Headquarters are located at 445 Reservation up above Wild Thyme. Precinct walking is every Saturday at 10 a.m. Refreshments, maps, training and literature provided.

Phone banking is ongoing every evening from 6 p.m. til 8:15. Call 917-9532 for arrangements.

Wilmot Risks Marina's Budget

Marina citizens were told there is "no risk" involved to the city in the $106 million promise of tax increment funds in the revised proposal from The Dunes Marina Community Partners.

But Mayor Wilmot told a different story to Gov. Schwarzenegger in this Sept. 3 letter. Wilmot warned the governor that local government agencies' "financial commitments will be jeopardized if the tax increment is taken to support the budget problems." He further warns, "by taking tax increment revenues, this key local development project will be placed at risk, as will the jobs, housing, and economic benefits to ...the City." Following the final Monterey Bay Central Labor Council political endorsements
on September 3, we are happy to announce that you have received the unanimous
endorsement of the UNITE HERE Local 483 executive board and membership meeting
for your November 2008 candidacy. We are the hospitality workers union that
represents more than 1,600 hotel, restaurant, cafeteria, and golf course
workers in the Monterey Bay area.

Fixing the Record Budget Deficit

In fiscal year 2007-2008 officials overspent by $2 million and burned off $2 million of our savings (fund balance) to cover the deficit. In the fiscal year 2008-2009 officials plan to overspend by $10 million, which is a record deficit; the largest in city history. $10 million in savings will be burned off covering this year’s planned deficit. Given the current economic trends it is highly unlikely to secure anywhere near $10 million in new on-going revenues to cover our on-going expenses.
